The Overview

A Throwback to a Different Time

Description

Graphic artist Rachel Breeden founded Circa 78 Designs to express her love for the print designs of her childhood. The bold colors and vibrant graphics of the late 1970s are what inspired her to pursue graphic art and design. Her stickers, wall hangings and other print projects have found an enthusiastic audience, and her limited edition 12-month wall calendars have been the biggest hit thus far, with the 2025 edition being her fastest-selling piece yet.

The Details

Taking Cues From the Print of the Past

Description

Breeden takes inspiration from a wide variety of print for every project, and for the 2025 calendar she looked to actual wall calendars from the late 1970s to authentically represent the look, feel and vibe of that era without verging into caricature. Breeden wanted the calendar to incorporate off-white backgrounds to help support a more daring use of colors and fonts, and she also wanted to make the design elements less crisp and clean, creating more of a fuzzy look that harkened back to a pre-digital time and place.

Print Worthy of a Spot on the Wall

Description

The 2025 wall calendar consists of 12 unique 10x10 prints that can be detached from the calendar and saved as individual art prints that can be framed and displayed. Being true to the 1970s aesthetic extends beyond the use of color and shapes to the choice of uncoated paper, which enhances the calendar’s tactile appeal and makes it stand out from more modern, glossy wall calendars. The combination of a more textured paper and striking colors and fonts makes the Circa 78 12-month wall calendar a transportative print piece that takes you back while helping you look ahead.
